Quake Map Sources Released!

Since it's Quake 1's tenth anniversary this year (starting June 22nd) I thought I'd dig up and release all of Quake's original map sources. For all these years the only possible way to glean any information from Quake's internal format was from BSP deconstruction programs - but those had problems with tons of brushes generated from insane BSP splits.

So finally, here are the originals with the dust blown off of them, shined-up and zipped up. Have fun, mappers!

Download Quake Map Sources and run it in an emulator. To use these maps, load them with QERadiant or a modern Quake map tool.

Senior Producer and Game Programmers Needed!

We just moved into our new building and it's got soooo much room we just have to fill it up! I'm looking for a Senior Producer for some game schedule-wrangling fun, a Producer for the programming department, a Producer for the art department, a Game Programmer to implement pure fun and just about any other programmer position as well.

So far the project is going very well and I'm really happy with our progress - it's shaping up far faster than I had hoped! Anyone coming on board won't be jumping into any kind of big problem or having to do any firefighting.

The job postings are on the Slipgate Ironworks site. Send your resume to jobs@slipg8.com if you think you're qualified!

Looking For A Level Designer

I have a special affinity for level designers seeing as I've been one myself for many years. And for my project there's a special kind of level designer that I'm looking for. You see, even though I'm doing an MMOG I'm looking for a real, true-blue serious FPS level designer. The kind of person whose life is making sure the FPS meter is high, the polycount in the FOV is balanced, the design is tight and visually grand, and who has a deep love for all things level-related.

Updates

Some quick updates:

I did an interview recently for The Escapist which is a pretty cool online magazine about the gaming world. The guy in the photos where my interview's located.......is not me. It's just their layout style to not have any pics that actually represent the thing they're writing about.

I'm going to be on The Gadget Show tomorrow. I think it's going to be podcast just like The Widget Show (later the same day).

And finally, I did a long interview for the 10th anniversary of Quake that's on the celebratory site Quake Expo.

The Widget Show

I'm going to be doing a phone-in interview/hanging out with The Widget Show tomorrow. If you're interested check it out. It's at 3pm PST. It should be a fun time as it's pretty much just a hanging out session.....but online. You'll find it at The Widget Show.

I just did a phone interview with The Guardian paper in the UK (you can tell because I used the word "ain't" and that ain't something I usually type! Doh!) You can find the interview here.

Also, seeing as it's the 10th year of Quake, I'm working on something cool to release to the public in the next few weeks. The vault has opened and there's something cool inside!
