Get your hubby to help you out :)

That'd be pretty cool if you could get him to make a few levels for us old Doom fans

Hehe...He was actualy working on one a few days ago - just because he saw me doing it .. :)

After you get down the architechture, I would suggest messing with some lighting.

My personal suggestion on lighting is always make light "move" by 16 units. So if you have a sector that is 160 light units and want to connect it to one that is 192, put a 176 in between. It creates a more gradual, half-realistic effect

Hello! I was at 1up, and saw something about your husband and checked out his site. And now yours! Yay! Ok, I read the story of how you two met and got married.... All I could say was 'wow' through out the whole thing! *sigh* Hope that kinda happens to me.... Sorta the same story.... But let's say it the.... Depressing side of your story. Anyways, I hope you guys are very happy together! And make tiny Rhalukas and Johns! ^.^ Since I'm not a blogger on this (I have two others >_<), you'll have to deal with my crazy comment. Good luck for the two of you.

@Ralphis : thanks for the suggestion, i'll try using that!

@Razi-chan : I'm glad you liked my story :) I hope you'll get to live a cool love story too..

I found John's site some time ago and now checked out yours. It's nice that you two seem to have a pleasant, peaceful, and stable life together, especially after the mess than happened at Ion Storm.

If John does put together some new DOOM levels, please encourage him to release them publicly. There are still many DOOM fans still out here who play the game reguarly, and we would be thrilled beyond belief to have some new levels to play from the master himself.

I thought my homepage address would appear in my Blogger file, but here it is:

My future DOOM page is going here:

Check it out when you have a chance!

Well it looks better than my first map, my first map was a POS, it was one whole sector, most of the main walls were transparent which meant you could shoot through them, and like any other tacky 1994 level designer (besides ID) would put a Spiderdemon/Cyberdemon at the exit switch/Teleporter.

At 12:29 AM, Blogger rhaluka said...

If you had someone like John showing you how an editor works the first time you used it, i bet that your first level ever would look really promicing!
And i had a bunch of problems myself with the map but John helped me alot :)

At 12:42 AM, Blogger Baphomet said...

No, i just was too stupid to find the Readme texts to tell me how to create a door, teleporter, and otherstuff i had to figure out on my own.

At 12:47 AM, Blogger rhaluka said...

I usualy like to figure it out by myself withour reading stuff..but if i really need to, i do it ...or i just ask John which is easier to do..hehehe

Having John Romero tutoring you how to do doom I levels, can life get any better really? O_o

That's like having Henry Ford helping you repair your car...

Although I personally think his finest games are the Commander Keen series and also Wolfenstein 3D.

Yeah. I believe his greatest games were at ID. They're classics, even my mom played those games (up until Doom). It was the way Carmack and Romero complimented each other. Carmack provided the next-gen technology and that let Romero's imagination go wild. Personally Quake 1 is my favorite game from him, besides The Ultimate Doom (episode 4 is scary and hard as hell). Although I am looking forward to the new Gauntlet game though. He pimped it out well in the interview he posted.

By the way,

Make sure you tell John that a fellow named Ralphis is looking to 1on1 DM him. He was in the Zdaemon IRC channel a year or so ago and I wasn't around at that time to play him. I'd like to organize his demise :)

DooM , my favourite game of all times!!

Baphomet says: Ralphis, he is still tough as hell in a 1 on 1. I won 3 rounds he won 1, however those last 3 rounds were very close.

Baphomet also says: You can IM him on Yahoo, his SC is txgameguy.

Nice map... interesting that you chose a middle finger saluting man that swallowed a metal ball and is hooked into a computer station as your first layout for a map.

;)

Keep it up chickie... John is a great LDr and a very good teacher... especially when it comes to his own games.

Nice first map!

I haven't been doing anything in the doom builder in a long time..
I kinda had problems with it - doing alot of mistakes and i couldn't fix them so i was getting bored especialy because i have a little ADD problem too :| but i wanna continue using it so i can pass the frustration part :)
Anyway lately i've just been hanging out, watching a bunch of movies (one of them was Brotherhood of the wolves, which i've seen it a couple days ago and it was awesome!) and playing Dungeon Siege 1 with John (he bought Dungeon Siege 2 yesterday and it's even better than the 1st one).. We've also been at Disneyworld for 10 days and it was cool (alot of weirdies there tho). I got to take a bath in the Atlantic ocean the first day we got to Florida too :) (that was in Ft. Lauderdale)

I'll give you this, it's alot better than most other "first-time" WADs I've seen out there... And there are alot of them. Not bad, keep 'em coming :P

Nice screenshots! It was nice to read up on that story of how you and 'the man' got together and fitting I think that Doom should play a part in it. What's the best game of all time? Pff, no question!

Small plug here, heheh. Do drop by doomworld.com if you ever want A1 mapping hints from our members at the cutting edge of Doom's continued development. Respect to the man, and I hope he's looking forward to the Doom movie!

Mmm,. that's much better than my first maps ;)

Doombuilder rules. I switched to that after DEU.

I always had problems with buggy sectors. I guess I had to use one of those modern editors with better NOD builders.

I left doomediting since 1998 because I was interested back then for democoding. Now I try to come back into it a bit ocasionally. There is still a strong doom scene out there! :)

browsing your blog, i thought maybe this post had a link to your map so people could download it. i assume i was wrong, but if not... maybe you could email me: dillingerescaped@gmail.com

I'd be interested in playing around in it, especially if we can get our network game going in the apartment.
