Like most here, I dream of one day working in the gaming industry. For over a year, i've been planning, studying, working. Ever since I was a little boy, I knew that this is where I belong. And now, i'll be on my first of many steps to make my dream a reality. For you see i'll be attending Full Sail ( www.fullsail.com ) on May 27 for my "Bachelors of science degree in game design & development". During my 2 years at the school, i'll be writing monthly articles that break down exactly what you'll be doing, and what you need to do to successed.

Although the focus of these articles will be based on the school itself, it's also a great way for other aspiring game developers to get a better understanding to what you need to do and learn. So these can be helpful to everyone. Not just others intrested in Full Sail. Once my degree program is up, the true test begins.....finding work. Although I have plenty of time to think about that, im sure it'll be intrested to see if I make it or not (I hope I do!! lol).

I welcome any questions/comments/suggestions anyone has for me. Either post them here, or please join my forums.

Thank you for your time, have a nice day.

This would be my suggestion: Don't go into game designing as a major at school. Go for something like comp sci, and start to learn the coding. Then, start to make mods and scenarios for games. That's how a lot of people get into the business, they start programing mods on their side time and that's what gets them noticed. If they've majored in comp sci and have a mod to show for it, they're going to get hired over you, even if you went to school for two years to learn how to make games.

And out of curiosity, if I may ask, why did you choose Fullsail as compared to another school, like Digipen?

Good luck and enjoy

Pyros: That's like saying to a wannabe TV reporter to do a degree in sociology rather than a degree in journalism, because lots of people get into the field with a sociology major. It doesn't make a lot of sense. You can still do mods, and you'll make games as part of the curriculum going to a gaming school, and if you're a coder you still learn the language and techniques. Doing compsci you learn to code in a general way. Doing gaming you learn to code specifically for gaming technology. The same goes for other aspects of game production studies.

Thank you very much everyone    ! Your support means a LOT to me. Seeing how MANY feel like im going to fail at my dream...

@Pyros- I've chosen Full Sail over school such as Digipen because of two things: the location (im already living in Florida) , and I feel the school is more suited for me. Its accelerated learning. Which is a good thing for me. I want to get in and out and on with my career. So, yeah in a nutshell thats why I guess    .

Don't listen to the negativity... its *your* dream. People just like to knock others down because they feel like crap about themselves & their own dreams.

Just remember, exploding chickens work well as a basis for a little game to make inside a really big developer game or something..

bah nevermind the ramblings of the chicken just go for it!

Heh, your right. This is mine, and mine alone. Who is to tell me that I will fail? Noone! Haha
. Although the thought of failure is always present. Its hard sometimes to keep going. This endeavor has been tough since the begenning. And will only continue to grow even harder as I go on. Guess sometimes I doubt myself, and my abilites. I just need to stay focused and aware of the "prize" awaiting me at the end. Which of course, is doing something I love. And am passionate about.....game programming    .

Groovy.  Full Sail is supposed to be a cool place.

I wanted to go there (for film) but my parents said no.

Full Sail is an amazing school. Sucks you can't go. I've been lucky enough to have very understanding parents. What other forms of education do you have in film (if any at all)? I know a few people at Full Sail who are taking the film degree. Seems like a really cool degree to get into....
