I don't know the exact reason, but from my understanding it wasn't making as much money as was hoped, and John wanted to make bigger games again I guess.

Tom and I ran Monkeystone Games from California for a year and a half.  At the end of that time we found everyone jobs making games on consoles and having financial stability finally.  I'm working with Jess D. and Eric S. on my Gauntlet team here at Midway so I still see them and we're still part of a team together.

But now no one is left in Monkeystone and we have no future goals for the company so it's time for it to go away.  Happens all the time in life.

Well according to what I've read, Romero's working on Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows, which is scheduled for release on PS2 and X-Box (not sure about Gamecube).

so tom and john are still in SD @ midway??    or moving somewhere else now...

are they sticking w/midway and taking a new direction as far as developing 'bigger' games now?

PS -  i barely ever see ANY side scrollers anymore...   i mean of course the technology is better but alot of us slightly older gamers kinda miss it.    if these guys (or somebody at least) could make some new side scrollers, but with a nice new pimpass graphics 'flavor' to it, that would be badass....     the playability and funfactor for those old sidescrollers is just as good if not better then all these dumb WWII/vietnam 3d shooter games.   dude when will it end they've been beating that dead horse skeleton for years its sick!

PSS - that was a longass PS

That's fine- it's your life.  But why didn't anyone bother to put any notification on the company's webpage that it was shut down?  I think that's just responsible business practice.

Tom left Midway and lives in Austin, TX now.

I'm working on Gauntlet:SS and starting a new game (next-gen) as well.
