I've been looking at some reports on the video game industry about John, and I happened on this line that billed him as "John 'Don't Mention Daikatana' Romero".

I thought he worked on Daikatana.  Why would it seem like he doesn't want to be associated with it, especially if there's forum here that's all about Daikatana?

I just found it on a little article, about how he and Tom Hall were hired for some game, and this was how they billed him.  I don't know why, so I'm asking why.

short story -

Daikatana got a lot of press and hype while it was still in early development. The game's release was delayed rather significantly for a number of reasons (graphic rehauls, apparant personality conflicts, etc.). The end product was not too popular.

You read the comment about him joining Midway, right?

Anyway, for circumstances beyond his control, Daikatana didn't even come close to the hype it was meant to achieve. For a good read, check out the Daikatana saga on the main page.

Yeah, and I would never intend to "not mention Daikatana".  I still think it's a fun game - not the best in the world, but better than a helluva lotta games out there.

Lots of factors contributed to Daikatana having problems - so many that they cannot all be counted.  And the interrelations between those factors makes it a miracle that the game came out at all...and that it's actually fun if you kinda click with how it works best.

It's really a great co-op game and deathmatch game, for sure. Yes, i do love Daikatana.

And I didn't just "work on Daikatana" - it was my entire, complete project and I had a team of over 20 people working 3 years on it. I did that game at my last company, Ion Storm.  All the company logos in my banner are companies I've co-founded and they are all still fully operational even today.

If you want way more information on who I am and what I do and continue doing,  you should get this book or read these reviews.

Did you ever consider trying to write an autobiography?

So, does that mean you like Quake better than Quake 2?  Personally, I like Quake 2 a LOT more than Quake.

Mr. Romero and Carmack had a different idea for how Quake was to be made. I believe Mr. Romero wanted it so you had a hammer that would also level up with you, making it a more unique FPS.

So, the hammer could be used like that Orc's Warhammer in Warcraft III?  Cool.
