Hey! Nice to be back here!
Whoo! I've had so much to do! Working on almost a dozen different game takes so much time!

Okay, we have the current status on Daikatana II:
Models: 5%
Sound: 5%
Engine: 5%
Music: 40%
Multiplayer: 20%
Singleplayer: 5%
Models recycled: 30%
Levels: 2% (one map completed -multiplayer)
Textures: 0%
Code: 2%

That's the current official status on the game. So far, we've written a program that allows you to transfer md2 models to md3, complete with original animation without screwing Quake III up.
We've gotten most of the Daikatana physics in multiplayer down, but were still working on the overall status of levels and models (including SP).

Bad News: Almost everyone has left the team, which puts a *tremendous* work load on the three of us. Which we have to inform you that we are unable to continue work on the game (physically) until we get some more people.

We finally have in-progress screenshots! Although I haven't got them uploaded, one guy I know here will give you a link to view them.

The overall story is complete and now were working on making design a reality.
I guess Romero hasn't had much time, because he isn't answering anything about Daikatana II...or anything in general.

Oh well. Anyways, were here to tell you Dk2 is still alive, but we NEED you help to continue!

So any questions you want answered were at the phase now to where we can answer ALL of them.
Post your thoughts!
(And if Romero gets this have him reply!)

Are you coding your own engine from scratch, or using an open source one, or purchased one?

@Corbachu
How did you convert DK's physics to Q3 engine?

There's no source or any information about that available.

And could you show us some screenshots to prove what you've done yet?

Ah, I see. When he spoke of making the engine, I assumed he meant building it, because Quake 3 is not open source and can't really be edited as an engine.

So what do you guys think of it so far? Those screens are the ones you can view to the pub; we have other ones, but we need to keep them a secret...
What do you think of it now that you have proof that we're working on it? Anything that needs changing? A comment or two would be nice.

If anyone can get these screenshots to be over the web, that would be great. Someone post them on sites so we can get it out farther!

Ryla is the main character of DKII. It shows her in several 'positions' but we haven't gotten the Daikatana test weapon actually in their hands.
The test weapon was converted straight with some little changes (lighting, smooth animation, curved out roughed images, etc). The Hiro model was converted straight over with some slight modifications to the gun he's holding...

Yeah, we're using Quake III. It's the best and easiest thing going.
Post your thoughts PLEASE.

Q3? Why not Q1? that way you can have a pretty game to distribute along for free, AND have it done easier because coding/modeling/sounding is generally easier on q1

Plus Darkone sort of has an engine that runs DK maps, so you could make some backwards compatibility...

Nah. Quake III is much prettier and more powerful.
Besides, we've already gotten some stuff down.
Dude, the daikatana engine was created with Q1/Q2, and we want to leap ahead of that game, technologically and gameplay-wise.
Not enough replies! I want feedback, people! [please]

Aw come on! If Quake1 has no shaders, then give it shaders! Give it a particle system! Give it pixel shading!

Control is going to be pretty much the same as Quake 3's, with some tweaking.
We're not going to waste out time with the Quake 1 engine, and I think you are high. Compare the Quake 1 engine to the Quake 3 engine. No matter how good Q1 is, it will never compare to the ease of Quake III.
We actually figured out that Quake 3 can have 3rd person camera, and it actually doesn't look all that bad...
With that, we should have more screenshots by the end of this year, and should be going into phase 1 by March of next year. Doesn't mean that new info won't be posted, however. Whenever something new happens, you will be the first to recieve it.
So, how excited are you that there is actually going to be a sequel to Daikatana?

1. You can't release a game called 'Daikatana II' without paying a load of money.

2. I wouldn't play a sequel to Daikatana if i knew it's a Quake III mod. That's retarded.

3. Ease never brings any success. No good game was ever easy to develop.

4. Half-Life was built on a Quake 1 engine and it looks nicer than Daikatana. You could get one of the modified Quake engines, such as Darkplaces / Tenebrae / Fuh and probably others and make something pretty out of it.

Dark was also built on Q1 tech. Check out some Thief II screenshots.
