Shadowcaster, up until February has been in development hell. I cannot go into detail other than the fact that it is still in production and it is still going strong. I cannot go into detail about what status we’re in. I will be releasing some new screenshots in the following days, other than that, please do not press for details. DKII is going to be released sometime around Winter 2004, and I already have a dedicated team working on it. I will not explain the situations that hampered development. It is under control now, and both of the e-mail links on the bottom are defunct, and if you have any questions you are free to post them here. The website is still under extreme development, so nothing will be revealed over there. All will be spilled in a couple of days, and I will tell you that you will be pleasantly surprised.

I will be pleasent suprised if...
1) Eidos gave you the license
2) You decided to go for a new name which isn't illegal.

Please, let's not go through the illegal bit of this.

He already said that it's called "Shadowcaster" instead of Daikatana 2.

I meant that you're doing a game with a title that's been used and is pretty well-known. Is that really hard to understand?

No, "shadowcaster", a name owned by EA, was a joint project another team was still doing. That's why he refers to both DKII and Shadowcaster in his post.

Shadowcaster: Beyond Daikatana
Shadowcaster: Beyond Daikatana, a Half Life Max Payne-esque film noir story starring Duke Nukem and Mario! Look forward to legal issues with all parties!

Let's wait and see what Eidos say. You know U5:Lazarus? It's a remake of Ultima 5. EA has no problem with it, so maybe Eidos won't care aswell?

There is a difference from remaking games, and then saying your "company" is making a "sequel" to a game.

Because remakes are usually good for companies. It renews interest in the game, and they're already using a set plot/setup, so it's hard to make it worse. Remakes are often known to be fan projects.

To create your own sequel and storyline, and to claim it's a sequel is quite a difference. Especially when it's not made by a proffessional hired and contracted team under their supervision.

If he's claiming it's a sequel though, they probably will be. Why not claim it's a mod that simply expands upon the story of Daikatana?
