Yeah, it was a hell of a cool machine at the time.  It's the first computer I ever got to use, and it helped contribute to the tech oriented geek I am today.  I'm soooo tempted to pick the working machine (with all sorts of accessories) at the thrift store near me for the nostalgia of it.

I just got The Bard's Tale II for my Apple //e today.

It's a really cool system but many of the games are hard to find.  I don't like emulating that much because it's just not the same.

If you can find an apple II at a thrift store buy it! they're worth quite a bit of money.

Yeah, if it's there when I go back again I'm going to pick it up.  It was in amazing condition, I just didn't have the $35 they wanted (for everything, not just the box itself) on me, nor my debit card at the time.  Lord knows what I'm going to do with all of my computer collection when I eventually go off to school.

I've seen Apple II's for $1400 when they're all decked out... you could make some coin there if it's got all it's parts etc. It's possible the $1400 was for a packaged one... but stilll they're worth some serious cash.

It's an easy machine, i think. The ROM is available too. So, with some electronics knowledge and the right parts (which are easylly available to anyone who lives at US, Germany and other countries where computer appeared first) you could make your own clone.

I would like to make a clone of ZX Spectrum. Unfortunatelly i don't have the parts i want (i have two Z80, 8KB of RAM, etc but i lack a EEPROM chip, a EEPROM programmer and a video chip - which i think is not produced anymore).

However the idea of 'making my own clone of my favourite computer' made Jeri to make her own clone of Commodore64, C-1. C-1 seems very good for a hobbyist computer and has some of newer technologies. Of course cannot compared to today's PCs, but from the specs i saw, can be used for a production computer (f.e. for text, charts, etc). However, it'll never used as a such since it is mostly made for hardcore computer lovers (like me; i'm going to buy one when i have the needed money - ~270 euro), and you'll hardly find any of those to use it like an office computer. I think that it will probably used as a programming environment for microchips or electronic circuits, because it's GeekPort (nice name) allows easy adoption of 3rd party hardware. Take a look at it at  http://c64upgra.de/c-one/

The Apple Computer is made by Apple. Macintosh is one of their types of coputers. Before the Macintosh, their computers were Apple II, Lisa, etc.

Utter crap? Ever touched an iMac? Because if you do, you'll suddenly recognize the truth, that the PC is actually Utter Crap.
No, really, PC is one of the most wasted architectures ever. It's junk and the only reasons people use PCs are:

1. They're cheap.
2. They run a lot of stuff (including many good games).
3.It's simple to code for PCs.

On the other hand, Apple hardware is expensive, but they're worth the money. Everything that's on the market today from Apple is good quality hardware. And I think they run some of the best operating systems in the world (variations of Mac OS X - which I believe is a BSDi fork).
