No, really, PC is one of the most wasted architectures ever. It's junk and the only reasons people use PCs are:

1. They're cheap.
2. They run a lot of stuff (including many good games).
3.It's simple to code for PCs.

On the other hand, Apple hardware is expensive, but they're worth the money. Everything that's on the market today from Apple is good quality hardware. And I think they run some of the best operating systems in the world (variations of Mac OS X - which I believe is a BSDi fork).

Yes to everything you've said (except OS X which is not BSD, it's a MAC OS running on Unix, but I get what you mean)... having said that it's a PC world so we have to deal with it.

The Apple 2 was really cool. I spent a lot of time playing Oregon Trail, Odell Lake, and Marketplace. I should probably mess with an emulator some time, I'm kind of missing that lemonade stand.

A Mac OS running on Unix? Like, a Unix system with Mac OS binary and filesystem compatibility or anything close?

Because that doesn't mean I'm wrong - I said it's a BSD fork, that means they took a version of BSD (not sure what BSD-based distro - some unix coder guy told me it's BSD, I used to think it's Linux), modded and added lots of stuff and there you have it.

True, but macs did have their benefits.

Historically macs were used by most graphic repro / publishers because of their superior graphics handling ability.  They helped boost products like Quark, Photoshop, Corel etc.

At the time when those products finally hit the PC market, the mac s*** all over them still!  That may not be the case these days as the PC market has such global domination.

I am not a mac fan, I would probably never buy a desktop mac, but I would consider a notebook :)Macs these days are stylish, powerful and a lot more 'standard' than they used to be.  If you could run windows (native) on a mac, you would probably rush out and buy one.

There is a pretty good Windows emulator on Mac OS X, but any Windows emulator, no matter how well programmed, runs with a performance deficit and not 100% compatibility.

The only difference between Mac software and Windows software is that Mac software isn't very easy to find, especially as warez ; that means you have to buy stuff every time.

Yeah, the Windoze emulator is now made by Microsoft. The company that used to make it (I don't remember the name off-hand) was, as everyone probably guessed by now, bought out by Microsoft.

-M.

PS. Sorry for bumping this up... I actually just found out about this forum.
