It's surprising to me how many people have played the original PC Dangerous Dave game I made back in 1990 (which was a port of the Apple II one I made in 1988).

To find out more about this game series, check out the Saga of Dangerous Dave link on the  Main Page.

The PC version of Dangerous Dave took one month to port and that includes drawing all the graphics in CGA, EGA and VGA modes!

In fact, I believe Dangerous Dave is the ONLY game in existence where you could switch between any of these 3 graphics modes at any time!

You know what's really weird?  I still get Dangerous Dave fanmail.  Just a couple days ago I got this one:

Dear Sir,

I am only new to the internet, having obtained my first computer from my parents for my 50th  birthday.  That was nearly 4 years ago. It then took me 18 months to be game enough to go on the internet.  The first game I downloaded was Dangerous Dave, which I still play (not very well, I might add, not having to get through all levels yet!!!!), but I do enjoy it.

Because of my enjoyment of this game, I would like to see what other games you have.  Can you advise me of a site that will allow me to do this??

Thank you,

Raylee Hewitson

Something else really strange: I get most of my Dave fanmail from INDIA!!!!!!

Heh, if that guy thinks DD is a 'serious' game, then he would probably pop his pacemaker at something like DK lol.

However, I bet he would just love HDB....HDB in copyright infringement. Now that is the future of platform games....

I honestly think that Dangerous Dave definitely needs a new installation in the series. Something to compete with Serious Sam maybe. The titles sound similar after all.

A and a new Dangerous Dave game would most likely be my top priority on the "to get" list...possibly even more than Doom III!

Wait...you keep getting fan mail from India? Hold on a sec... *gets out the Book of id* ...maybe it's Scott Miller or one of his relatives. You might have to reply with another "Psycho Letter." LOL. (I'd love to see a copy of that letter if you have it, John...)

That's weird most of it comes from India.  Must be popular down their.  Maybe a tourist donated some old computers with Dangerous Dave on it.  Who knows?  I'm going to read your history on Dangerous Dave.  I have never played it, but I probaly will now.

Would rock, if Monkeystone were to make a DD game for Pocket PC and GBA.

Or maybe India is a fairly well-developed country with a thriving computer industry these days. Welcome to 2002, I think you'll like it here.

I'd like to see a new addition to the Dangerous Dave series.

I don't know about something like 'Serious Sam' though. Maybe something like Resident Evil meets DOOM. I'd like to cut loose in a large city full of zombies.

I loved Dangerous Dave (the ones where you have to collect diamonds and grab a grail to be available to leave the level). As most great games, the best thing was it's simplicity yet great gameplay... I mean by minimum means you get the maximum effect

I completed it a whole load of times, discovering all the damn secrets (WARP ZONE, YEAH!) and some bugs which helped to complete game    Gotta love those PC-Speaker sound effects

I've wrote a program that plays those PC Speaker sound effects from Dangerous Dave and a lot of other Id software, Apogee, Softdisk etc. games.

Frenkel is one hardcore Dave-loving mutha.

You know what's pretty cool and interesting to me is the fact that it only took me ONE MONTH to make the PC version of Dangerous Dave that everyone has played all these years.  One month for all that fun.   I wonder how many hours Frenkel has spent dealing with Dave.exe....???

I think I only spend some hours on Dave.exe

About that hardcore Dave-loving mutha. I've got two emails from people who ask me how to get past level 8. I've made a picture that shows that you have to go through the bottom of the screen so you get at the top of the screen, anyway the picture makes more sence   .

damn, i enjoyed dave long ago, on my XT (8086) with cga monitor and 512k RAM... damn, that was long ago.

it's just that dave is so damn nostalgic...

and it's funny how things work, you know... often if game is done fast and without some things in mind it turns out really great, i mean, like dave.exe... and these games then have their own life, what happened to quake - like discovering all the tricks and rocket jumping (id didn't made RJ, right?)... and that's what's great about them.

last time i played dave couple years ago and now i can't pass past level 7. well, i only tried three or four times, i forgot all that stuff that was in the higher levels. damn, why you can't save games in dave?   )))))))

Sorry I just had a strange vision of Ghandi finishing Dangerous Dave and saying, "What a great entertainment title! Perhaps I shall install this other title by Mr Romero, DooM..."

Month's later he is using Ghandi_own0rz on zdaemon...
