I got laid off again so I've had 2 days to work on this.  I ended up having to do 1 triangle at a time until I got most of the left hemisphere.  Then mirrored it.  I drew an eye from lookin' in the mirror and slapped it on the model so I could figure out dimensions.  The eye in the corner is from an early version when he looked even more like a blob.  For reasons unknow I couldn't get a "Jade" color.  Plus the colors are most likely to be the color palette for the skin etc...  Now I need the mouth, chin and hammer out the some of the points before I tackle the textures/skin.

I don't have a lot of FTP space so I doubt there'll be anymore pictures until he's done I guess.

nice nose. What program you use? :-)

Hint: have three viewports: top, left, front and draw a sketch of that what you want to model for each viewport. Then make the triangles to outline that sketch. This will make your job easier (i made a small fluffy guy once with that method).

there are many mesh smoothing algorythms. With one of those (and some post editing), yes it would look more realistic. 3D Studio MAX has "smooth", i think. But i'm not that sure how it performs that "smooth"...

I left the nose a little large because I want to smooth it some more.  I haven't registered the program yet.  Having a background image would help!  I'm using MilkShape 3D.  So far it's been the best one for me. I downloaded Blender but the Help file is Documentation is 37 megs and AOL is slow these days.

I dont think the half scientists bodies should be too 'difficult' as they have white suits, so the colour aspect wont be hard, as for the heads? not sure, I know theres at least 3 type of scientists faces in Half life, including one who looks ver similiar to ALbert Einstein

But Mr. Boulderhead should look what ever you want him too, you shouldnt restrict yourself in anyway, that way you got the 'designer's freedom'

But you should be proud that chiQ thinks its good, as shes an expert on these things

as for the clothes, I wouldnt worry, its probably best if people concetrate on one area of the body at a time, so they can specialize, i.e: the head, as each body part has differnet characteristics,

ps: how come you got 2 days out of work?

MS3D has a smoothing tool, but you can't use it on a model that's got a "hole" in it.  I don't know the right term but I tried with no effect.  I assume it's because it's not closed it.  If that makes sense.  Lol, It made the Ghetto Blaster look like an E-Type Jaguar!

Thanks Zombieman!  If I can get good enough at this I want to try Frazetta type characters.  LOL! I still like machines though...

Even Frazetta has gone "Internet Store" happy!

Hey Dana, only the first picture of the ground combat attack vehicle looked like a  ghetto balster

the final picture that you put up looks really impressive, I know that Terminator Skynet is an old game (made in 1995 or 1996), bt if you look at their ground attack vehicles (same concept), they look much simpler, and much mopre pixelated, so you're well on your way to making good looking game machines
