...but how about a forum for political discussions, that kind of thing.  Those kinds of topics don't seem to really fit into the forums available now.

O.O

Interestingly enough, another bboard I'm on had the same discussion. There's a lot of, politically inclined, people over there, and probably 1/4 of the topics in the Open Discussion were political-related. The admin's over there DID make a new forum specifically for that, and lots of interest has been showing in there. It's nice for the people who don't really want to read the political topics and it's good for the people who like them since they aren't out-right banned. The only concern I'd have doing something like that over here would be the lack of interest in it. But other than that, I'm all for it :D

It's up to John and Milla, but to my mind we should avoid politics. It does come up from time to time in the General forum, but it's generally not pretty when it does. I'm pretty opinionated about poitics and I for one have to convince myself to walk away from such posts. I think such discussions may be best left to other Forums. But then this isn't a democracy so lets see what John or Milla say.

I agree. While I wouldn't comment in them, I think that it would only serve to create a deep rift between users. People are often dead-set on their political opinions, and can often offend others while not even meaning it. I would like to see politics stay out of here. I for one cannot stand political debates because no matter who is arguing, there will always be skewed sides, little details missed, and the like.

I don't want this turning into another DoomWorld... no thanks, I'm not interested.
It's not like we're all like-minded here, let alone close to it; just about everybody at DW is atheist-communist, or along those lines. And for every person on there who knows what they're talking about, there's another ten easily-led idiots who'll spout hearsay, propaganda, and other assorted bullcrap and then zealously defend it. Everybody whose opinion differs just gets fed up and leaves.

I don't think a political forum here would be as 'radical', and I don't think there are as many "easily-led idiots" on these boards. But mostly, I don't think it to be very necessary, either.

I mean, who comes to the John Romero boards to discuss violence in the Middle East??
And don't get started, either.

Besides, there are plenty of political boards and forums willing to discuss politics elsewhere. I'm sure those who are interested can find them with a quick Google.

Since the Open Discussion forum is for precisely such [non-games-related] topics I think we can stay with the status quo. This board isn't really active enough to warrant a forum just for one off-topic subject. It barely warrants as many forums as it has already.

Sure, just an idea to kick around.  I'm displaced right now as my home forum is all but dead, and it's difficult to find a political forum on the net without

messing up the program.

But like has been said, this is a game forum, maybe it ought to just stay that way.
