so far it seems the lack of light is the biggest issue.

The lack of light doesn't become too much of an problem as the game progresses. I have some issues with the sounds. I'm gettimg tired of the quake 2's blung sound.

I think lack of light is good because it forces you to use the flashlight, which leaves you vulnerable (unless you're a masochist who's flashlight is the only weapon you use).

I'm a little suprised that Gamespot gave it an 8.5...its deserves at LEAST a 8.9 or 9...I like PC Gamer's(9.4) and UGO's score (A).

8.7 would be the rating I'd give it, 9 if on an Integer scale.

I don't know,  Greg Kasavin (and GameSpot in general) tends to be a little more discriminating when it comes to game reviews (sans the Tony Hawk 3 review [shudder]).  From what I've seen so far, their review seems to be pretty accurate.  I'll say this though, they minimize the scare factor more than they ought to.  Maybe I'm just a wimp though.

Oog, I'm loving this game. The graphics may be mushed down as far as they'll go but it dosen't matter to me. I'll be getting a GeForce 4 128 as soon as I can get away from my PC. I think the last shooter I bought was Turok Evolution (sucked!) but this game makes me feel squeaky inside. I finally started a game on the default difficulty instead of beginnner or easy. It's truely a milestone for me.

The first thing I did was beat up some guy's hamburger. Not so tough now are you.

Played it a bit yesterday, then some at 4 PM today. I didn't feel spooked at all though, just going through the motions. Then it got dark....uhhhhhh i gotta go to the bathroom. Speaking of bathrooms, I was disappointed I didn't find a zombie in the stalls. Maybe there could have been one leaning over the toilet vomiting, that would have been sweet. I feel a mod comming on. But I almost missed the cut scene in the mirror. Spooked me cuz i looked at my reflection on my way out the door. Very nice.

Gah I wanted to throw In a theory of mine/possible spoiler but i can't get the text to match the background color so you would have to highlight it to read it. Oh well. I'll skip that.

I just know i'm gonna freak out when I get to the trites and ticks.... and cherubs... and chainsaw zombies. I may be a wiener but I'm working on it.

For a final note. What's the difference between the difficulties? Less ammo? More monsters? More damage? If the story changes at all let me know that but none of the details.

I was a little ticked off that it got 8.5 and then actually went back and payed attention to what the guy was saying. He had a few good points so I can't really say he's wrong. In fact I posted on there that I thought Romero should  have done the level design. I was shot down a little, but a couple of people agreed.
