The only problem with DNF is the trolls such as you that are over-reacting to the time it will take for the game to come out. Get over it, okay?

If you don't consider 8 years of development, 4 years of lost work, terrible management, 3 different engines, and a publisher that doesn't even know if the game will be completed, then yes trolls are the only problem.

If you accuse me of trolling by using facts, I'm going to accuse you of being a dumbass simply because you attack my posts are being factual despite the fact they're backed up by quotes by George Broussard himself.

At least Halflife 2 has something to show, which is far more than Duke Nukem Forever could say. Say what you want, but Halflife 2 is NOWHERE near DNF in terms of vapourware.

Oh stop bitching, it's better than still using Karma.
They choose to integrate the features they want, they're not basing off UnrealEngine2. Their base is still UE1 and they're getting pretty far with that.

don't get me started on the different versions of the unreal engine again...

i thought that they were using their own engine now anyway? or was broussard just faux pahing when he said that? didn't realise that had been cleared up... but he did say they were using their own engine.

aside from a couple of years, the difference between DNF and HL2 is that we've only known about half life 2 for a year and a half, instead of 8 years.

will i personally judge the game in a vacuum when it comes out? yeah i will. if it's a brilliant game it's a brilliant game. but as far as judging the developement of it?

if the game doesn't show 8 years of work it's perfectly fair to say the development was mismanaged and ineptly handled. if you can't call the developement of DNF inept then... i don't see what that's in comparison too. no other game has been in developement as long as this one. ever. and until this game is released no other game will have been in developement as long. and even after it's been released it'll be a while before we see another in developement as long.

i still hope the game will be a great final product. i believe people like John when he says he's played it and it's great... but no matter how good the final product, it won't sidestep the embarrassing developement time. i won't hold the game accountable for it, but i will hold 3d realms accountable for it. same mindset i have for any game.

Duke won't feel ok if he's not "dressed" with a perfect engine :-).

Let's face it... no matter how long we have to wait, no matter how badly the game is received, WE will buy it, WE will play it and WE will love it :)

I agree.  We're all looking forward to Duke Nukem Forever - regardless of what we say.  Even if its out of curiousity as to just what the hell takes a game so long to make.

And I also agree - judge the game for what it is.  Not for the development time.

Judge the developers for the development time.  If thats what you so desire.  Although how much should we really care?  Surely its their risk and responsibility if they end up taking years - costing millions to risk making their money back?

Of course I'll buy DNF.    I'll definitely pick one up when it ever comes out.
But in the mean time,.. they should have more 3rd person console Duke Nukem games come out.   Time to Kill was so fun I'm still playing it.
   Manhatten Project was fun, too.

I'm still playing all the old classic 3drealms shooters even now.  Shadow Warrior, Blood, and of course DN3d.   Lots of humor mixed in with lots of bloody action and strippers.  (yeah, the GTA series has all that too,.. but not in the charming comic-bookish way that those old shooters did.)

I'm going to buy DNF when if it comes out... I won't open it, I'll simply frame it along with the "up and coming" article from Gamespot on it dated 1997.

If the game is bad, I will neither buy it not love it. I will not play retail value for a game that is slammed by everyone and considered to be a waste of 7 years. If it's a good game, I'll consider getting it. But not if it's another Xtreme Paintbrawl.
