I remember the feeling I got the first time I picked up the chainsaw in Doom.  I get that same feeling with the painkiller.  Such a gloriously gory weapon.

I'm really enjoying this game.  It's made me take time off from World of Warcraft (which says a lot).  IMO it's more like Doom than Doom 3 was.

It's not a complicated FPS, which I like.  I mean don't get me wrong, I dig Half Life 2, but sometimes I just wanna boot up and kill a couple hundred beings in various ways.

Its good. I hate games that forses you to kill waves of enamies to enter another room. I'm a little uneasy about the double weapons. Shotgun looks to be made of old copper pipes, and some monsters look Great to poor.

All in all a fun shooter.

All the bosses are insane.  Forgot to add that.  There's just something about a boss you have to scroll your mouse up to look at that's just a tad intimidating.

My favorite Painkiller is Judas Priest's 1990 album Painkiller.

Heh. :)

painkiller is an awesome game. pure action, really dynamic, you gotta rely on your reflexes in 90% of the situations. much like doom1 or quake1. which is awesome. plus the graphics are nice, good physics, etc.

it has some problems though.

only 2-3 types of monsters per level. a little more variety would be better.
game had some bugs (both technical and gameplay ones), and the addon added lots more of them! what could be worse than trying hard to get abandoned factory's tarot card only to run around level for two hours in frustration, and only then reading official forums that there's a bug and you can't destroy 3 objects or so... such stuff is just cant be forgiven - when making such a great game, you MUST test it so at least gameplaywise it wont  be buggy..

and those secrets... I HATE THEM. they are not secrets, they more like a test of patience - i mean, go try jumping those cranes in The Docks level... totaly frustrating.

game was great, but addon - sorry, it's 50% greatness and 50% lameness. levels range from supercool (park) to bad (dead city), added alot of stupid jump puzzles, and... MORE BUGS! WTF.

other than that that was the best FPS for me of 2004-2005, i enjoyed it the most, and played it from start to end, like 5 times. as for doom3, i was bored after the hell levels and barely was interested in finishing it.

painkiller also has some elements from BLOOD. cheers to that!

Is Painkiller that one game where you start in a graveyard killing old people who spawn into bats when they die? If so, then it's an alright game to kill time with. The graphics where clean and fluid. I found it really easy though, even on the hard difficulty, but I only made it to level 3 I think. Not original, but it had enough wickedness to suck me into it. It was fun throwing those badguys in the air with that one weapon.

hmm well you do start out in a graveyard and the enemies go flying, but they are skeletons and dont turn into bats.

Singleplayer is great, including the addon "Battle out of Hell".
But Multiplayer is godlike. I love it :)

I loved the game for about 1-2 hours, but after that it was just the same thing over and over.

Kill loads of enemies, move onto the next area.  Repeat until the end of the level.  Ocassionally fight a boss.

I agree though, the multiplayer is very fun.   :)

Mmmm, DooM? DooM was actually more complicated though, you had to find color coded key cards!

Yes, but Doom is over 10 years old.  Painkiller is obviously not.  ;)  Most First Person Shooters of today have evolved from what Doom used to be, although it helped lay the foundation for them and helped get us to where we are now.

yea and they've become either boring 'quest'-ridden, or 'walk in darkness, constantly switching to flashlight and back to weapons' or 'endless 'fun' with gravity gun' or 'the longest riverboat ride ever' games. or goddamn stealth simulators.

i like painkiller for what it is - simple and to the point. none of that 'omg story etc'. that's what makes it a game and nothing more. a very great game. instead of going for some sci-fi 'games-must-be-more-like-movies-today' crap.

i miss monolith in the days of BLOOD... nowadays even if they would come up with a sequel (blood3) it won't have the 'spirit' because of the new faggy trends
