I hope you understand where I'm coming from, Corb. I remember you promising screenshots every other month and then when the time came, you said you had to push the release of the screens back because someone in the art team said that you couldn't have them even as the project leader. That's one reason why I doubt you.

Actually, that was TheProgrammer, who was doing Smooth. I could not control what he wanted to do/not wanted to do, nor what to show/not to show. It was his engine and we didn't want to rush it [at the time]. Remember how mad he was when I showed them? Or did he send it in PMs...he also didn't want me showing it ANYWHERE but FPI boards (at the time).

I didn't know TheProgrammer was head of the art team.

I don't think there was/is a "head" of the art team... it is just made up of several artists.

I've seen several sketches and drawings that they've done for the enemies/characters, its just that there really isn't a 3d modeler yet for the team to help bring these ideas to the computer screen.

I don't know why thats so hard to understand.

Although he has a big "team" and has had one for quite some time. He specifically told me around November that he didn't release screens because the lead of his art crew didn't let him, even though he has greater power. People questioned him even then :)

This is insane, I can't believe I read all that... There is no way you can possibly start up a huge dev team and attempt to work on several games at a time, especially when most of the team has little experience in what they're trying to do. Did you read the Knee Deep in the Dream article? Ion Storm had taught us a lesson, the basic lesson was don't over-hype in the begining, don't talk too much about the internals of the company, don't throw together people who are inexperienced in what you want them to do for a major project and don't expect to run several projects at a time when starting out. In essence: "One, shut up and make your game, and two, shut up and make your game."

There is also very little chance of getting the rights to use the Daikatana name and other related IP in/for your game.

He was the head of the Programming team, not the art team.

Then why did you tell me the lead of the art team didn't let you get the screens?

i actually read every single post in this thread today because the subject is very interesting to me and i've always loved the concept of independant game makers (or musicians, or actors or whatever) beating the odds and achieving their dreams.  all logic says that what they're trying to do is impossible and i know there have been promises of proof of progress for as long as ive been around here.  for all i know they havent done anything yet.  but, i still cant help but hope they find a way to make it work.  and at the very least, i hope that trying to tackle such a monster project will be a good learning experience...even if the game never gets released.  stay focused, stay motivated, and study your ass off and theres nothing u cant achieve.  but i believe the point of this thread was actually just to sign ppl up...not to ask our opinions about game industry business practices :P

I lost my last smidgen of faith when someone posted that the lead programmer ( ahem, only programmer) knows just Visual Basic.

Oh well, maybe DK2 and the rest of FPI's games will be out in time to compete with the Windows Longhorn Plus! pack games.

Eh, I donno... I'm going to be studying C++ more this summer since school wont be in the way, etc.

Once I learn a little bit more C++ and maybe OpenGL/DirectX or whatever, I may try to help out a little on the programming part just for something to do.

Chubz, there's a lot more to it than learning the basics of a language and a graphics API :P

I was afraid of that....

Ah, I personally don't care.  I'll try my best, and if that's not good enough, then I guess it's a waste.
