This Prey game looks more promising then Quake 4.
i suppose it does.
i'm holding judgement on this though. the reason for most of the hype 'back then' was because of the technology behind the game. Portals have already been realised in the mean time (go see serious sam) and now it's running on a licensed engine.
does that mean we've lost the open environments we saw in old screens for these frankly Doomy ones here? can the Doom 3 engine only render grey, red and brown surfaces

(i kid, but it's an undertstandable statement i'm sure).
in all honesty, quake IV is something i have zero interest in. i didn't like quake 2 as much as the original, and am disapointed to see them deciding to carry on what was going on there rather than say, going back to quake. after all, the industrialism of quake 2 looks much more like doom 3 than quake did. i'd much rather see something gothic than another series of metal corridors with whirring machines within.
still, Prey has a much more interesting sounding protagonist, and maybe they aren't meant to be goofy, but all the same, i really like these goofy looking aliens. they've a lot more character than the ones in doom 3 and what i've seen of the stroggs in quake IV.
also, i'm looking forwards to a doom 3 engine game that doesn't look like doom 3. i've seen some impressive stuff in the mod community around the game, doing day time half life 2 esque city streets very nicely, and hope someone is going to put the engine to more artistic use.
