I remember vividly back in 1995 when I was waiting for Chrono Trigger's imminent release. I used to hang out on the #square channel on IRC, trying to get news of the game.
The reason I wanted to get Chrono so bad was because I was a huge fan of Square's games Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore. And I had been hearing great things about the upcoming game. I was in the game store on August 22, 1995 and got Chrono, took it home, and played it all night. I was blown away.
The start of the game in the Millenium Fair - what a great way to teach the player how to interact with the game world, and it provided a harmless, fun environment to do that. Other games have duplicated this design idea (the most recent being Zelda:The Minish Cap with the main town).
Then one of the coolest things I've experienced in a game - being on trial and getting in trouble for what I thought was typical, harmless game play! I'm not going to spoil it for those who haven't played it yet, but you'll not see this in any game that's been made.
The way the game sometimes tricked you with the save points making noise and waking enemies.....being able to attack your enemies with up to three characters joining forces in one big attack....the beautiful music, excellent sound effects, etc. The list is extensive.
I'm so nuts about this game that I own about 6 full sets of it (box, cartridge, manual, etc.). If you haven't experienced Chrono Trigger yourself, get on eBay and get it for yourself - you'll never regret it.

I would have to agree that Chrono Trigger is simply amazing, and many games to this day have borrowed elements from it .

Chrono Trigger was the first RPG that I just had to re-rent from the video store to beat ... I actually rented it two more times before just buying the damn game!

You made a new section just for this? Anyway... Yup August 05 is gonna be Chrono Trigger 10th Anniversary, but you forgot to mention that it's also gonna be John Carmack's 35th Birthday.

I should probably invest some time and money finding one... I'd get the Playstation version if I were you. It has lots of extra features in it. One of the strange things I noticed in the PSX version is that you can get Chrono AND Magus on your team. I don't remember being able to do this on the SNES version.

Oh God...I never played it... Maybe my SNES could be unearthed as a doorstop now . All I really use it for is StarFox...
