So I'm a huge fan of the TV show lost. The first episode of the second season starts out with the green screen of a monitor with this shown on the screen >: obviously it looks like it's an upside down unhappy face and I immediatly thought of the Apple... of course the Apple was actually ]: and I feel that was what actually appeared in the screen play of that episode, but they messed up.... or not... anyway, later you actually see Jack (the main hero) walk up to the computer and sure enough it's an apple II with the logo pulled off it... in the back ground are a bunch of old mainframe tape drives, and I'm not sure if this thing is supposed to be a terminal, or if it's actually supposed to be an apple.... still, the unhappy face stuck with me... I wondered if Jobs and Woz thought about this when they came up with the prompt... anyone else have any new Apple II appearances in modern pop culture?

It sounds like the script would just be calling for an "old-looking computer" after reading your post.. not that any of the writers would be fans trying to make a pop culture retro "I love Apple II" statement.

Oh God, word.  I hate trendy assholes.

Am I the only teenager who wants one for knowledge, to help learn about the computer revolution, 80's culture, and develop more knowledge for older games?

I would just like to have one because it's what I learned on and there's nostalgia. As for messing around with it or any other apple game etc you can just get an emulator if you don't care about the nostalgia factor.

That WAS the correct prompt! for an apple II !! the II+ had the ] symbol, but the II used INTEGER basic, which used a > prompt! this is an older machine which predated the plus, here were also interface units to mainframe tape readers available in the late 1970's & 80s as well as those for 8" floppies, they werer RARE , but available. The covered logo though, was proboably there to keeo apple happy, or deny them a free ad, (Important if Toshiba & others are buying commercials during the show)  :P  I actually owned an integer basic Apple II with 8: drives (In addition to he 5.25" ones" I still have it all these years later. Its great for nostalgia!

I caught something while watching 2010 - not the scene when Heywood is on the beach with his IIc ... but when he and the new wife are in bed ... in the background is what looks like the case from a newer Mac. But given the movie was made 20+ years ago,  it must be the other way round... that Apple copied the case from the film.

And yeah, I remember the > prompt ... my first Apple had 16k and NO disk drive. Then came Applesoft, and it rocked compared to integer... tho Billy Budges 3D stuff only really ran fast enough in Integer... <sigh>
