We are currently searching for a highly experienced and motivated Lead Game Designer to manage the design team for a unique multiplayer PC title. This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits. We are located in the San Francisco Bay Area near Redwood City.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with John Romero to implement the vision for the game
• Create, review, organize and revise the Game Design Document (delegating to the design team where applicable) including features, story, missions and 3D level design specs, game mechanics, AI behavior, etc.
• Manage the design team (approximately 6 people), including organizing tasks, translating design directives from a co-Lead Designer into actual play experiences with the team, mentoring designers as needed
• Create or co-develop design production pathways and processes to ensure an effective and efficient design process
• Maintaining game design documents using our Wiki system
• Proactively participate in tuning and testing of game systems and mechanics, and collect feedback to determine changes needed to ensure AAA-quality look and feel.
• Work closely with your Producer to schedule and track your design staff’s progress
• Work with Art, Programming and Audio to foster a highly communicative, coordinated team effort
• Study similar products, good and bad, to gain and communicate insights into building a better game
• Conduct performance reviews and assist with career development of your designers
Qualifications:
• Experience in a Lead Game Designer role on several shipped products required.
• Proven experience in running a design team and managing multiple designers, utilizing the specific skills of each individual to maximize productivity
• Strong writing and communication skills. Ability to visualize, document, and communicate gameplay ideas
• Strong focus on introducing innovation in all areas of design
• Strong grasp of how to polish and tune gameplay and mechanics to AAA-quality, and a solid understanding of what separates AAA games from non-AAA games
• Avid PC gamer with experience playing several game genres and identifying advances in game design within each genre or sub-genre. Console experience a plus
• Strong leadership skills
• Self-motivated. Well-organized. Solid problem-solving ability
• Scripting & 3D software knowledge and experience a plus
