The Japanese can ruin anything.

« on: October 19, 2005, 12:17:56 PM »

I'm compiling a list of what I've seen over the years.

Sony Fanboys - This wasn't so during the PS1 days, but PS2 fans I know are typically very close minded, and own just one console, their PS2.  The quote CheapAlert, yes, they are over defensive, like furries.  I haven't seen many as of late, but the one I met today sounded like he knew it was inferior but didn't want to admit it.  He then proceeded to flip his shit when my buddy Eric and I hooked up my Dreamcast to the school's 13" Commodore monitor.

XBox Fanboys - Usually comprised of people who want to play online and are too cheap to buy a PC, or (too a MUCH lesser extent) former Sega Dreamcast fans.  They are disproportionately stupid with investments.  Every XBox fan I know says "My PC is a piece of crap, it's from 1998."  Then they have the audacity to play Counter-Strike on their XBox.   Even when I tell them that I can easily build them a $500 gaming PC that will not fail, and will be made out of bulletproof parts, they don't want it.

Nintendo Fanboys - Are very into the characters and are over obsessed, to once again quote CheapAlert, but you hit the nail right on the fucking head.  They are, well, kids at heart.  Or like one buddy I used to know, they didn't want to risk switching platforms.  But as soon as he bought Sonic Mega Collection (Which I recommended to him), he was in disbelief at how much fun he was missing.  He loved it as much as Mario after the first few minutes.

Sega Fanboys - The nicest people I know who are into gaming, period.  But once you are in the "cult of Sega," you are never out.  And you are not allowed in.  You are born into it.  You must be a Sega fan from Genesis onwards, at least.  And you must be technically skilled, because Sega consoles have odd approaches to doing things that need much skill to comprehend and enjoy, such as Saturn's architecture.

These are the guys who have switched from Dreamcast to PC to avoid  the console crapfest fallout.

The guys who get so much shit thrown at them, yet are able to convert the shit throwers with a small white box.

We never get pissed off if you insult us, because we know that your PS2 outputs shittier graphics than our Dreamcast.  We know that our legacy is viewed from a flawed perspective, and we are the only guys who brag about the model dates on our Dreamcasts, because it shows how early we got into it.

We're the most arrogant, stuck up, prentious gamers around, but we never display it publicly.  We're a little cult of assholes, and whenever we bash someone with a PS2 or XBox, at the same time we're telling them what they're missing on Dreamcast.

But we're a closed society, and we're all stuck in the past.

I still wish to this day that the Dreamcast had not failed.  Sony finally had a system that was on par with everything else.  Hell I'm still amazed at the output of my dreamcast, and I've owned it for almost a year.

God, the games that could have been

Sony?  Or Sega?  I'm not trying to be a jerk, were you referring to the PS2?

what about fanboys that will only play ONE genre and call everything else crap,.. as opposed to just saying that they can't play other genres?
Those always get to me.  I could never limit myself to one genre.

I have one friend that hates FPS games.  After asking him specifically why he hates them he replies " Because you'll get attacked from behind and not know it."  and... "Because I can't stand not seeing my character."

I also know someone else who hates FPS and RPG games.  Told me they all suck.  As to suggest that both the game genres are all poorly made or something.  That soooo pisses me off.

Then there are the people who hate anything that's popular, regardless of the actual quality of the game.... just to make themselves seem in some way  "true" gamers.

Then there are the people who ONLY like new games and say everything else sucks because the graphics aren't as good in older games.

Then there are the people who only seem to like older games and hate everything that's new and claim that there's no innovation or blah blah blah in new games when in reality there were  crappy rip-off games and mediocre games from day one in the industry.

I hate all those assholes :D!

Especially the "uber-retros..." Christ people.  Yes I've gone back into the depths of retro gaming but if something is new and innovative, I'll totally buy it and love every second of it.

Half-Life 2 was amazing.
