The verdict is:  I like it a lot.

The graphics engine:  It reminds me of the Doom3 engine.  By that I mean it looks like they used the Doom3 engine.  In other words,.. it looks better than most current gen shooters,... and the system requirements are reasonable. (compared to Quake 4 and Serious Sam2 and Prey who all look the same graphically but require a 2 gig cpu MINIMUM.) It's awesome how your bullets actually take chunks of the wall out.  And best of all,.. you can see your feet!!!

The gameplay:  The weapons handle real well. The precision aiming is pixel perfect and they managed to make the bullet-time not seem like a gimmick.  The enemy AI is the best I've seen in a recent FPS.  The action,.. the enemy who all work together and look the same,.. and the gun play all feel very much like HL2.  It reminded me of the many firefights I had with Combine soldiers in HL2,... except these guys are actually more aware of what's going on.  You can even play stealthily if you're good enough,... I don't think the game was intended to be played stealthy. But I seem to play everything like that.  I always peek around corners move while crouched so the top of my head doesn't poke over the tops of things. And then I'll make a few kills and then retreat and set who ever comes to investigate(or just plain comes after me if I was sighted) up for an ambush.  The pistols are more accurate than the machine guns.  I can usually make a couple of headshots from across a room with the pistol,.. then switch to machine gun or shotgun for possible close encounters.

It's also pretty scary.  It plays with your mind.  Also,.. just when you get comfortable fighting those soldiers all of a sudden they throw some freaky supernatural stuff on you.

Awsome game! my only complaint is its too short :(

If only it were longer, atleast as long as half life 2 was.

But aside from that, im still in awe. The A.I is incredible, and its just what ive been waiting for. i love how you can shoot their leg and it goes dead, and they drag it across the ground franticly trying to move. Or when you shoot their arm and it goes dead, having to shoot with one hand. i havnt checked, but when they can only shoot with one arm, can they reload their weapons?

Also, its one of the few games that actualy takes me into the story, i felt emotional in some areas, it just draws you in like that, like your living it. Not even half life 2 drew me in as much as this game.

I myself bought the directors edition, and it's got some cool stuff in it. Comes with a nifty comic, and even some videos, one of which is hilarious.

So yeah, awsome game, great A.I, great graphics, and they look great on any setting in all honosty. for fun i put everything on low at one point and was amazed by just how awsome it still looked. Oh, and the melee attacks were awsome. Iv'e been waiting for spin kicks and such in an FPS, if there are FPS's out there with em, im not aware, but this one was awsome. One of my favorite moves was doin a spin kick and then as i spinned around 180 degrees i would blow another dude away with the shotgun. Or just do a slide kick and as you get a guy in the shins, you blow him up in the air with the shotgun.

The actual fear aspect of the game was well done in my opinion. I loved all the subleties in some levels of the game. Doors creeking, sometimes closing. Noises in the walls, or even the cieling, lights flickering, Papers drifting, things that may or may not have been supernaturaly triggered, but still freaky lol. However it could have done with more supernatural stuff in my opinion. What was in the game was great, but I would have appreciated more. more subtelties, i loved it when you would see figures run across through the glass windows and such. Too bad there was never suernatural interference with the radio:( or was there? i could be wrong, incase i never noticed.

K, well, I think im done babbling bout it now lol, i probably made a ton of spelling errors and grammatical errors and blah bah, but i dont care

Yes,... it was basically static that would come in labeled as "origin unknown"  and the static would happen just as certain lights would flicker.

I have to run it on low because i have a  radeon x300 temporarily until i have enough money to get geforce 7800 or something close to that (perhaps radeon x1800). Other than that.. its an excellent game!

Quake IV or FEAR? :)

LOL, that would be a disturbing "first person shooter".

My vote would go with Quake 4, only because I've had so much anticipation. I'll reserve judgement on how much I like each one until after I play them though. I just upgraded to an Asrock 939 Sata2 board and an AMD 3500+ I'm going to have to wait a couple of weeks to pay this stuff off before pouncing on more games.

   Quake 4 is great balls-out sci-fi frag-fest.  It's like Quake 2 reborn.

FEAR is  a great creepy horror splatter-fest.  It's like the Combine soldier shootouts from HL2 mixed with Japanese horror films.

If I had to pick one over the other,.... I'd have to say that Quake 4 fries my bacon.   mmmmmm..... bacon.
