There aren't any entry level positions.  The lowest position i'm hiring for is a Mid-Level.  I'm not taking any chances this time. :)

John, I know it doesn't fit with your current plan / aims.  But do you think you might one day produce a book, or series of books covering game development?

I think they would be really popular with the hoards of people wanting to learn the tricks of the trade.

The problem with modern game development is the learning curve is that much steeper than it was in the 80s, with complex 3D and all.  It's easy to learn the basic principles, but I would love to know precisely how guys like you develop, ie. what's the style that you have evolved.

In the UK it's damn near impossible to get into a game development job, and with huge corporate beasts like EA eating all the little software houses, it's a problem that is only going to get worse.

If you're small, try the internet route... just that what the guys at http://forums.indiegamer.com/ are doing. Even id started this way (and EA was huge back then too).

Mainstream is not the only way to go.

Actually, there are a lot of books out there that are great to get you started in development.  My route was through self-learning so it's similar to what you'd do if you picked up a book and started to code away at home.  The only difference is that there were very few books back when I started.
