Two friends of mine that work for retailers have confirmed this.

The Japanese can ruin anything.

Enjoy your Sega Saturn...

There are more reasons behind why I view the PS3 as a potential market failure.  None of them have to do with my personal Sega bias whatsoever.

It's really too soon to tell on the Ps3.  But when Hideo Kojima (whose game Sony has put front and center since the unveling at E3) says they're similar in power, I'd tend to believe him.

And you won't see as many quality exclusive third party titles on the ps3.  Microsoft is picking them off one by one.

But you're right about Japan, to a degree.  I think the 360 will garner a lot more market share there than it did this past generation, but it won't come close to overtaking Sony and Nintendo there.

And there's a shortage...The fact that a 360 went for 3500 bucks on ebay today is testament to that.  It won't last long though, and more units showed up to retailers even today.  In less than a month, you'll be able to find one just about anywhere you want.

But I got mine, so I could give a shit about a shortage =D

Last night I had to run to my bedroom for a few things and noticed I had my Dreamcast set up with a demo disc. Yeah, needless to say I dropped everything and went over there. Spent about 45 minutes with it. Loved what I saw, and everything I played was terribly original.

That'll never happen.  Sadly, they have been wanting to get out after Genesis.  Especially David Rosen, the co-founder.

However...Considering they have a monopoly on the arcade hardware industry (And have had one for almost a decade now!), it's more possible than one may think.

The issue is public trust, not hardware quality.  Sega has had the best hardware engineers around, in my opinion.  If you look at the specs of their machines and see how much they did with so little, and the immense innovation involved, it's breathtaking.

I mean, the Game Gear was a Master System with an expanded color pallette and a low-res screen.

If you de-integrate the social stigma, public trust, and everything from a Sega console, the hardware specs are amazing.  The Sega CD, for 1991, was nothing short of revolutionary.  And the 32X had a helluva lot more power than one would think - CPU wise, it was faster than the PlayStation.  It was almost on par with Saturn, so with the 32X you could use software rendering to overcome it's somewhat shitty graphics chip.  And if you look at games like DarXide, which never saw an American release, they look just as good as PlayStation or Saturn.

DarXide is now out for mobile phones, however.

;)

I'm glad somebody understood my humor there.  The silliness of that is unparalleled.
