The Japanese can ruin anything.

« on: February 11, 2006, 07:19:00 AM »

Fuck everything about them.  The shitty controls, cheap AI, everything!

They are fun for two players.  NOT FOR ONE!

Why is it that a culture so obsessed with honor always codes the most fucking dishonorable AI this side of the universe?!

Compare Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition to Mortal Kombat - I'm talking the Sega Genesis versions of both.  One guess as to which one actually FIGHTS FAIR.

And futhermore, why is it that Virtua Fighter 2 on Saturn has the best button layout in history, but with it, the shittiest, cheapest, pussiest AI I've ever seen?!  Fighting Pai Chan is like taking pre-calculus, for fucks sake!

Seriously, screw this.  I just got done fighting Pai Chan and I chucked my Saturn controller on the floor and angrily shut off the machine.

I've thrown in the towel.  No more single player fighting games from here on out.

I couldn't stand Mortal Kombat - stop motion Goro was about the only interest I had in it...

The only fighting game I have ever played seriously is Tekken. Recently though, I haven't had the time or inclination to play.

You're fucking hilarious

It's so true, though. They're fast as hell, too. I remember playing MK2 up until Kintaro, the penultimate boss. He was the cheapest bastard ever. I almost won after trying about five times and ended up screaming at the television. When I finally took him down, I was laughing maniacally. The last boss was nothing, though.

And I think that was on either "Easy" or "Medium" difficulty.

I always love the Cheese brought upon me by the Capcom AI.

It's especially great when the AI is playing Shin Akuma.

I find the A.I. in the early MK games to out-cheese most Capcom A.I.'s by far.

Example: I try uppercutting the computer; they immediately uppercut after me, causing me to miss and get knocked on my ass.
Damn, that's annoying.

I agree that AI is cheap, but that's because it has to be.  Don't flame me for this, because I get just as pissed at the games as you do.

I have on plenty of occassions literally tossed my SNES/Playstion etc controller spinning up in the air and walked away from a game pissed at the cheapness.

The reason I say they have to be is that they cannot compete with our ingenuity otherwise.  As hard as playing the computer is, I never feel more frustrated than when playing with  a really good person.  I have friends who compete in video game tournaments, and they are super good at fighting games.  It's almost scary how much they know, and can exploit from games.

Just remember next time you get your move cancelled magically for theirs, or they seem to be able to throw you without being within range, or they can ignore the fact that you were blocking, or they know exactly where you will attack from and will block EVERYTHING, or when you hit them 10 times and take 15% of their health while they hit you twice for 40% of yours, or when they perform special moves without the delay a human needs to perform the controller motions, or when they can repeatedly perform moves that are supposed to leave them unable to move temporarily afterwards, or when hitting them makes you take damage, or when they combo you for days while your combos are always broken within 2-3 hits ... you know what?  Fuck it, you're right.  I hate those cheap bastards too!

Mortal Kombat was always cool with the concepts of the characters.

When it came to the actual gameplay, however, it just went all to hell.  The Fatalaties were nice - at least until you'd seen them all about a gazillion times.

Street Fighter never stuck with me either.

Fighting games can just go ahead and fight their way back to hell.

Fighting games are pretty much dead anyways, aren't they? Few people are still making them and they're not that popular.
