Wii is basicaly refering to the idea that it will involve a wider audience that will come together to play games and have good times ect

the 2 i's are supposed to represent people i think, or they can be 2 controllers, whatever u want, but the general theme is uniting gamers or something like that

but yeah, revolution sounded much better

Well said... I think you're correct on the meaning behind the name, and I also agree that the name "revolution" was much better.

"Wii" will only confuse customers, while "revolution" would have described the system itself without knowing anything about it -- after all, a revolution in gaming is obviously goign to be something big, and that would have probably done more for a casual audience.

also, its just poor marketing, its been such a long time now that the press and the people have been referring to this console as the "Revolution" a name we have come to know for so long now, and then all of the sudden, it changes to Wii overnight, and like, now a lot of people are confused

even a lot of my friends are confused when i mention the Wii, they are like, "whats that?"

i mean, wtf lol

I just don't want to predict a thing (I mean sales*, fun-level**, popularity*** of those 3 consoles****)- time will show!

Attention! The following text is 100% IMO! However, I  respect your opinion. So, if you have any counterarguments, please, feel free to PM me! :)

* if it's going to be 2/3 of 360 price, than it's going to "own" a 2/3 of market;

** If you was on E3 show...? On booths of 360 and PS3 titles you mainly heared: "revolutionary graphics!... wagon of horsepowers!... copied controller technology ;P !" On flipside on Wiiboot you heared: " "! Because everyone was busy playing! Like this was their first time(playing meant :wink: ) - in fact, for some of them it was...

*** depends on both previous;

**** NES, Dreamcast and Phantom weren' t meant :)

wii + weak = wiik

In processing power- it is(Nintendo confirms). But, not always power is so important! Here's example: just watched last episode of "Top Gear"(auto TV show). Lotus Exige S (modified 1.8L Toyota engine) defeated Ford Mustang GT (4.6L V8 ) on the track. Just as Ford- 360 and PS3 could be faster on the straight- but there is no fun to go straight!

What does "wii" mean, anyway? What was wrong with "Revolution"?

:roll: Woodthunder, what you are saying is...nonsense- it's like saying "Never say never!" (you have a point, but you contradict yourself)
You said: "its just poor marketing"- I'd say: "it's just pure marketing". As I remember, Nintendo never has a poor marketing! Even in NES times- they used technological icon of 80's- robot- to sell the console!

Now about the name "Wii":
everybody is talking about it- what could be better for marketing(satori is even tired of it :) );
Wii sounds fun, Wii is short and universal(you can say:"let's Wii", "let's have some Wiikend", "you'r Wiik", "Wii are the best", "sWiit" etc.)
Just watch the Nintendos E3 press conference and listen to beautiful wordplay!
However, I liked revolution better as well! It sounded cool 8)

Anyway. Nintendo has done a good thing with their Wii controller- it makes player to move. And moving is the base of fitness! Jackie Chan has used the same technology***** in his games! ( FFW video to 07:08 )

***** Yep! Nintendo aren't first! Jackie Chan games are using technology called XaviX (http://www.xavix.com/)

Not true.

Nintendo Entertainment System - Not a video game system.  We won't burn you like Atari, we swear.

Dreamcast - When combined with the logo, could give off many suggestions such as hypnotizing graphics, "something you've never dreamed of," etc.  This one is definitely more interperetive than the others, but for me it always meant "cloudlike beauty" (Keep in mind this was before I even saw the menu screen!)

Phantom - Just sounds fucking cool.  Bottom line.

hmmm.. well some time has  passed and my opinion has changed.  I just got a 360 and I'm happy with it.  Dead Rising is the game that convinced me to get it.  Then I picked up a few other cool games that don't have PC versions.    (seriously,.. if Dead Rising had a PC version I would've just got that.)

"Hey, come on man, don't touch my Wii!"
lol.. good one Chubz.
Well.. I must admit that I never onwed a console. I even don't own a television. But maybe that will change. Well the tv thing will change after moving to my own flat next semester and so I am also thinking about buying a console. My Pc is already quite old (Athlon 1ghz, radeon 9600) but I still have a lot of cool games lying around here which "suffice" for the next few years.
So the console would have have to offer something "different". The Wii promises to offer that. Let's hope the controller really works as well as said and that there'll be some nice on the market. They must relase the ultimate light saber simulator! ;D Also some party games to play with friends would be cool as there is a lack of those concerning the pc. The only onces which come into my mind are "You don't know jack" and maybe "Worms". But they are not something like Guitar Hero, Donkey Konga, Eye Toys & co.
