I've tried googling and searching out the whazoo, but no avail...

I'm searching for some cool old school DOOM/ DOOM 95 ads that i've seen scanned places in the past...

one of them was in a really dark blue color, with added scratches, and showed a dismembered torso hanging from a ceiling in a dark room with his face down... (thats the main one im looking for) it has a quote, but i can remember... this same image is in the id anthology booklet on page, showing a section of the ad im talking about, but its only a piece of the whole ad

there was another, a couple others, but i remember one said "Dont shoot until you see the whites of their exposed skeletons".

I had these images years ago, and just really looking for them again at a nice resolution.

I'm almost positive they were DOOM for windows 95 ad's, but they could have been final doom ads, but not sure.

if anyone can help, i would greatly appreciate it...

i've checked here:  http://www.doomworld.com/pageofdoom/images.html

and while this one is kinda like what im talking about: http://www.doomworld.com/pageofdoom/graphics/finalbig2.jpg

and this one:  http://www.doomworld.com/pageofdoom/graphics/winbig.jpg

theres more like them that im looking for...

many thanks

Heres a piece of the ad I'm looking for, as I took a picture of the page that was in the original ID Anthology Booklet... as you can see, it has a snippit of the ad:

you can see the guy hanging from his arms, and in the bottom right corner of that snippet on the page, you can see some text... like the words "people" and "violence".. the full ad says "some people are totally opposed to violence, those people are all dead".

I'm almost positive it was a Ultimate DOOM ad, as u can see the ultimate doom logo is the same lettering on the bottom of the snippet (ignore the quake article snippet, they just had it laying on top of the doom one)

there were high-res scans of it some years ago along with others, and i've found a couple on the link i posted above to doomworld's media section, but still looking for this one.

one of the others i do remember the quotes.... "dont shoot until you see the whites of their exposed skeletons"

That's one hell of a poster; if you ever find it; please let me know.

i'll keep my eyes open too. :)

here it is in the ID SOFTWARE office, obviously it still exists, as this picture was taken not very long ago... I knew ID had a picture of it and a poster of it on their walls, but that was from images of the old building... and here it is in the current building...

you can barely make it out, but its there:

Hey there!

I actually don't know where you can find the half-torso one but The Richards Group in Dallas is the company that created those ads.  Have you tried contacting id Software about getting them?  I know they have several of those mounted on the walls.  martys@idsoftware.com (Marty Stratton) is the person you can ask.

The following message to <martys@idsoftware.com> was undeliverable.
The reason for the problem:
5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'martys@idsoftware.com unknown user account'

I'm resorting to messaging Carmack, instead.

Many thanks Romero, but it seems that address is no longer valid for stratton, as mentioned above... I tried Willits, Carmack, and Hollenshead a couple weeks ago as well but to avail... I think Carmack and Willits were undeliverable, and no response back from Hollenshead. Anyone else, or any other form of contacting them? I'll research into this group that designed them while I'm at it...

I started a thread on it at DOOMWORLD.COM, and to some success, we've recovered some low quality, full shots of the ad, but its from a 3rd person close up view, and quality is not that great, but we do have alot that we've discovered about it there as well...

heres the best we've found:

thats from this HardOCP article:  http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MjYyLDEsLGhuZXdz

which is just a picture of the poster, but not a great quality scan that was floating around in the past

there was also this:

http://www.planetquake3.net/pic.php3?c=./images/id_2005_9.jpg

from planetquake4.com's trip to id software from last year... and u can see it still there.

I've emailed the richards group design/ad agency in dallas ( http://www.richards.com/ ), and have requested their knowledge to see if I may obtain a copy either through no-fee digital images or purchase a poster or prints.

I'll have a response when they send me one :)

I've emailed John, without a problem. Just waiting for a reply.

I believe I read somewhere that he won't reply, unless you make it obvious in the 'subject' that it isn't spam.. Whenever I email him, I add in [John Carmack] *subject*, as the subject, and I get a reply every time.

I'm awaiting a reply from John, but I doubt that he'll know where to get the poster.

If you get a reply, and it's a good'un, post up the image for us other Doom fans! :)

Sorry, I don't have any idea where you might find one.  We don't have any here.

Carmack doesn't know; and I've taken what he said as in 'we don't have that poster even at the office', which is fair enough.

Suppose we'll have to wait until you get a reply from the company.

More bad new,s just got an email back from The Richards Group:

this is what they had to say:

Quote
[Justin,

We have checked our files and find that none of the images you are
interested in still exist.  Sorry we can't be more help.

Jean>

:(

If something doesnt turn up soon, I'm gonna have to start offering some money as a reward for anyone who still has a a hi-res .jpg scan or poster... and Im being serious, to get it back into the doom community. Can't believe such a great ad disappered from it to begin with.

Ugh, it didn't save properally, so I'll do it again tommorow.

After an hour or two in photoshop, I managed to tidy one of the images up a bit.. Get rid of the watermark, align it correctly, sharpen it/darken it, et cetera, and it turned out pretty good quality.

Not good enough quality for a poster, mind you: but It'd work fine on A4-A3, I reckon.

Ah well. as I said, I'll do it again tommorow, if nothing has turned up by then

What other things have you found? Other posters? Any goodies, that would be worth printing? ;)

Give it a minute or two to download.

The RES isn't much better, but it's a much better view of the poster.. Suitable for up to A4, which sadly, isn't enough for my liking... The watermark has been removed, and it has all been alligned properally.

Hm.. Looking at that, actually. The text doesn't appear to be readable.

I've decided to bump this up. I'm still interested in finding this poster, and so are the guys at Planetdoom. Perhaps Romero knows something?

EDIT: I've sent John Carmack another email, and bit more to the point this time. Addressing the fact that it was still in their office in 2005. I've also suggested the idea of selling said work in the ID Software shop.

Let's hope I get a decent reply.

EDIT2: Romero has already replied. Bummer.
