Myself and petroid are at it again.

Since the initial release of DKDM was FAR more widespread and got a whole lot more attention than we ever expected, several things were considered but were dropped from the initial concept. One of those things was the inclusion of user created maps.

So now, after nearly 4 months of deathmatching, we've decided to fix the user map situation by making a patch for DaikatanaDM v1.2.1. The patch also works fine with the complete retail version of Daikatana.

Here's a small quote from the readme:

Quote
With the "DaikatanaDM v1.2.1-v1.2.2" upgrade patch, DKDM now includes 18 user created maps on top of the existing 32 Ion Storm maps. Upgrade included, the game weighs in at 305 MB fully installed (126 MB compressed).

There are other bits and pieces which have been fixed and added to DKDM (such as a simple dedicated server restart manager), but the biggest addition by far are the user maps.

The maps are as follows, with ALL credit going to the creators, as indicated:

All maps from "Daikatana User Maps Pak 1", circa November 2000:
     - E1-2001 Lunar Arena (DI-Smover)
     - E1-Slipgate Central [Quake] (Dr. Foxy)
     - E1-Man in High Castle (DI-Smover)
     - E2-Canyon Chaos (Dr. Foxy)
     - E2-Poseidon (Dr. Foxy)
     - E3-King of the Hill (DI-Smover)
     - E4-Nizcorpses [Shogo] (Dr. Foxy)
     - E4-Daikatana Forever (Lord Killer)

Additional maps (some have been slightly fixed, see the readme for more information):
     - E1-DMLight [Heretic 2] ([QE]Destroyer and DI-Smover)
     - E1-Skyline (DI-MeisterM)
     - E1-Dead Simple [Doom 2] ([S.F.C]RGRebel)
     - E1-Gibcity Arena [gibcity5] (Wayne W. Smith "AKA [21+]Sarge")
     - E2-Discus Arena ([S.F.C]RGRebel)
     - E3-Notre Dame ([S.F.C]RGRebel)
     - E4-SS7 (Original) (Ion Storm and [S.F.C]Sarge)
     - E4-The Edge [Quake 2] (DI-Smover)
     - E4-Hotstreet ([S.F.C]RGRebel)
     - E4-Gibcity Base [gibcity2] (Wayne W. Smith "AKA [21+]Sarge")

The reason of including these maps is to hopefully get the maps out there and being played, instead of simply sitting there as file mirrors. Again, all credit goes to those who made these maps, not petroid or myself. As you can see, a lot more Episode 4 maps have been added, since unfortunately the retail game included 2 or 3 Episode 4 deathmatch maps out of the box.

A note to all who are hosting public deathmatch servers (Morph, Mammut, etc):
If you don't mind, could you add in your server MOTD "Download DKDM v1.2.2 patch to play user maps" or something along those lines to make the average person who joins aware of an update? Just another way to get it out there to players, for those considering hosting a user map server in the future. Thanks in advance to those willing.

A special thanks goes to DI-MeisterM, zeus, John Romero, the original user map creators (of course), and also a big thanks to the guys who are still hosting Daikatana servers.

Hi EO

Nice update :D

Can you add the "real" maps name to your list, so it is easy add them to the server list. E.g the "real" map name of SS7 is e1dm2a.

By the way I have made a pak4.pak off all known usermaps made for Daikatana. It's 258 mb and just needs to be added to the daikatana/data folder to work. You (and all others) are welcome to have it.

If I can upload it some where?

----------------

hmm - I can see I will have to update my pak4.pak as you have modified some of the user maps.

Sure thing, here are the map names:

E1-2001 Lunar Arena: e12001la
E1-Slipgate Central: e1slipgate
E1-Man in High Castle: e1mihc
E1-DMLight: dmlight
E1-Skyline: skyline
E1-Dead Simple: doom2map7
E1-Gibcity Arena: gibcity5
E2-Canyon Chaos: e2canyon
E2-Poseidon: e2poseidon
E2-Discus Arena: discusarenav2
E3-King of the Hill: e3koth
E3-Notre Dame: notredame
E4-SS7 (Original): e4e1dm2a
E4-Nizcorpses: e4nizcorpses
E4-Daikatana Forever: dk4ever
E4-The Edge: e4q2dm1v2
E4-Hotstreet: hotstreetrev1v2
E4-Gibcity Base: gibcity2v2

By the way, the map names which I have updated have "v2" at the end of the bsp name (except for "Skyline" which was always in beta and has now become final). Most of the map changes are to fix the server from crashing on time/frag limit and to fix some graphical fixes.

Also, would you be able to host a usermap server separate from the normal rotations you have going so people would randomly be disconnected from the server, not knowing they need the v1.2.2 patch? Even better as well, you could modify your normal servers MOTD :) Up to you, but just an idea.

I'll try find a place for you to uploaded to so I can grab that map pak from you and I'll PM you. Thanks!

A User map server is now added running all 18 maps, with a time limit of 10 min pr. map  -- enjoy.

The server ip to be used in Qtracker is:      daikatana.game-server.cc:27993

I felt the same way!

I haven't played anything with you since we randomly ran into each in the UT2k3 demo... it feels like a school reunion but in a good way.

Hey Ladies & guys !
It's been a while, i'm glad to see there's still lot of people around ! Dynasty found me on facebook (Emmanuel Bricard), and well, i'm back here :) I installed DK yesterday on my new laptop and it's a little hard to find all patches and files. I have a DK CD somewhere with stuff from the good old days but i can't get my hand on it right now.
This DKDM idea is great ! I always believed that if DK has been first released sooner as a multiplayer deathmatch game first it would have been a hit. Whatever if you liked or not the style, the gameplay was so awesome, it's one of the very few FPS where the player really had to learn and practice a lot to be good, and the 4 universes in one was a kick ass idea. BTW John if you want to work on a new gen FPS, that could be an idea : put in a new multiplayer online game all DK strenghts (so all of us would make the hype for you :P ) only, under a new name (which links this new game to 'old school hardcore FPS style'), make it online.. and give it some bots this time ;)
Thank you again for this DKDM, i'm gonna try this one asap !
Have a great day !
