If you haven't already, you need to pick up Dead Space.  While a lot of the gameplay elements are borrowed from games like Resident Evil 4, Doom 3, Half Life 2, and more, it is a great blend of action, suspense, horror, science fiction, and lots of blood and gore.  It's one of the best games of its kind that I've played.  If anyone tries it, let me know what you think.

I rented it while waiting for Fallout 3, I enjoyed it, it felt somewhat like a better Doom 3 IMO

Sadly I didn't feel frightened, I guess I'm just not able to get scared in a game, I did feel that sense of foreboding around every corner though

I ended up not using many of the heavy duty weapons and stuck to my good old plasma cutter, it just managed to get shit done in the most satisfying way for me, more games need plasma cutters lol

Yeah, a lot of my friends either sold the plasma cutter or just didn't use it once they got the line gun and other weapons, but since I like to panic shoot sometimes, the plasma cutter, with its healthy size magazine and available ammo was a great asset for me; especially upgraded.

I'm at Ch. 8 and the Plasma Cutter has been my weapon of choice up to this point.  I've also upgraded it, though, so that obviously helps.

I've heard a lot of people say that the Ripper is also another great weapon.  I actually bought both it and the Pulse Rifle, although I don't use either one all that much.  I just keep them for back-up weapons; I only use the Ripper when I encounter a horde of those annoyingly small but deadly "mini" aliens.  The Pulse Rifle just basically sits in my inventory doing nothing 99% of the time.  I don't care for how quickly your ammo depletes when you use it, and it just doesn't seem all that effective in the long run.

I’m playing this game with my son (we play kind of like a tag team, swapping the controller from time to time) and I can honestly say we’ve jumped several times, felt a growing sense of dread about what’s around the next corner and found some truly disturbing images when we do take that step.
I’ve played a lot of horror games and Dead Space is an absolute treat graphically and also delivers a great atmosphere. Switch off the lights and get ready to be scared!
