Hi,

After 12 years of waiting, the Duke is coming... not back? According to shacknews.com 3DRealms has been closed... I personally think thats bad news and I'm really sad about it! In my opinion an big piece of gamedev hostry's gone.

I remember them blabbering on about "Forever" when I had just left school back in 96 - and I'm like pushing 30 now...

Time stands still for no one, and 3D Realms has paid for it.  To those who have lost their jobs I wish them the very best in finding new employment.

Honestly,.. that development cycle was stupid.   That was back before 3/5 year dev cycles were unheard of,.. and now it's normal for a game to take 5 years.    They would've released the game by 2002 if they were competent.   That would've been a 6 year cycle,.. but at least it would have been released,. they would've made an assload of cash to make another one by 2006/2007.

Seriously,.. at least we can play Daikatana.

The website is back online, it seems it's all true. The guys took a photo to thank all the fans.

better quality

And yes, the detail -especially the animation- is awesome. And FBA is top-notch.

I hope someone picks DNF and finishes it.

This tragic news. Despite all the rumours of it being vapourware - and the media jokes, I was convinved it was coming out this year.  Possibly with an big E3 announcement or something similar.
Surely they cant just let this go to waste.  How much hard work was lost here?  Even the 2000/01 trailer looked pretty amazing - and would still possibly have made a good game if released today, let alone the new kick ass visuals.

Surely some millionaire somewhere can just pick up the pieces and release this.  Wishful thinking.....
