Haha, I'm new (and nervous) and it's my first time posting here. :P

So, I've been using RPG Maker (particularly RPG Maker XP) for several years and I'm currently developing a short game with it. Around last year, I heard in a RPG Maker-centric community that a mention of RPG Maker outside of RPG Maker communities might elicit laughter or something? Eh, I'm not sure, it's just something I heard of. Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong, I guess. Anyway, what's your thoughts on RPG Maker (2000/2003/XP/VX) programs? :o

The most successful series of indie RPGs (Aveyond) are made with this, so it has to be good :-P

Honestly, I recently tried out RPG Maker XP and went through a tutorial. It's really easy and all but as a programmer it takes the fun out of programming it yourself. I'd mostly do that to change the battle system since to my knowledge you can't change the battle system. I really like the map maker and how easy it is to make a map on there. So for someone who doesn't know how to program, this is perfect. For someone who does know how to program, they learn how this gets around the tedious work and skips right to the design but lacks the freedom you get programming.

Its a good program, I used to use XP a few years back. Using RPG maker doesn't mean your game would be anything less, its kinda like Doom Builder. Its a tool you use to make what you want to create.

Btw, has anyone beyond Bad Sector played some of the games made by it? Good games like Ascendence was made through the tool.
