Yeah, pretty much. I don't see the point of having an obscure game that probably wouldn't be very fun to play anyways, especially for thousands of dollars.

And I thought paying $30 for out of print albums was a lot...

It's just the nature of collectors.  I don't have that kind of money to burn, but it's the same reason I shelled out 7 bucks for a 1.0 version of Ocarina of Time when I already had the 1.3 cart.

There was something in RetroGamer magazine where there are some collectors who hunt down prototypes, betas etc - anything they can get their paws on.  They are the kind who have to keep their identities secret in fear of being taken to court by companies like SONY and Nintendo.

Why do these people feel the need to collect to such an extent?  Apparently its the thrill of having the rarest of items.  Apparently, some have a warehouse to hold their stuff.

So yeah, that is the kind of person who would buy this kind of item.

The guy marrying a videogame character is like something you'd read about in a cyberpunk novel.  Except in the novel you'd put on these cool goggles and electrode thingies and have cybersex with the game character in a fully virtual environment with smell and feel.  And then you'd be murdered and it would be this mystery.  And it would be about figuring out if some hacker broke in and killed the guy using the game character or if the game characters AI was responsible. And the cool ass main character would be following this trail of clues and meeting weird people and there's have to be an interesting sub-plot to mix things up a bit.   Also there'd be a cool part where the main character searches for the AI developer of the game character and it turns out the AI was developed by an AI !!  AAAAAAGH!!  THE MADNESS!!  Somebody write this damn book!  Or better yet,.. make it a cool on-line graphic novel!   And make sure that this plot isn't too similar to "Idoru" by William Gibson first!
