I dunno.  I have to give DOOM 3 credit for getting me back into the high-end PC games.  Yeah, it got repetitive pretty early on, but at the time I had never seen anything like it.  Very immersive.  I still have fond memories of it.

Lately, however; I've been waiting for something really good to come out of id since that and Quake 4 though I had fun with it, just wasn't it.  I didn't play ET: Quake Wars because I was hooked on BF:2142 at the time.  Rage?  I don't know yet.  I hate to pre-judge, but it just isn't drawing my attention.  Honestly the PC game I most want to play right now is Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Another Doom title.

More cybernetic demons from hell...

Yippee...

I mean, D3 was cool as a spooky sorta technology-fest...

Nothing in the ID catalog has affected me like the original Doom did. That game scared the ever-loving piss out of me on a regular basis, and I ate it up.

I still remember one time, playing it at a friend's house, in a pitch dark room (what other way is there to play a Doom game? None I say!)... We kept hearing the snorting/snarling of a Pinky nearby, but had no clue where it was... looking... looking... Just as we'd given up on it being an ambient sound, we turn a corner to be greeted by a screen-full of Pinky Demon... we all jumped. One person about fell backwards off their seat.  Those moments are priceless.

As for ID... I'd *really* like to see them do something completely different... I know Rage is supposed to be "something different", but it's still gonna be a FPS, etc.

I understand they were going to do a more fantasy-type game at one point... which, if my history is correct, was passed up on in favor of (yet another) shooter/FPS. Something like *that* would be more interesting to me than yet another "anonymous space marine must fight off hordes of demons" game.

On the other hand... I guess if you're successful at what you're doing...

DOOM 3 was basically a DOOM remake.

I liked the engine and the updated gfx and such, but it really destroyed what made the original great. Frantic, trigger-finger breaking action as you slaughtered wave after wave of evil bad guys.

A flashlight that you could not use in conjunction with a weapon? A chaingun with a 60 round belt? Space Marine armor that has no apparent onboard oxygen supply? All these were quite unsettling.

On the plus side, I did like the hand grenades.

Beyond that, I am hoping that DOOM 4 is a new chapter in the franchise continuing the story of one of id's greatest heroes, my personal favorite, The Doom Marine.

They can fix things by starting off hiring Bobby Prince again damnit. Half of the original Doom atmosphere was the heart pumping otherworldly music. They get that right again, they are half-way there to the original Doom experience, but I doubt it will ever happen.

Doom4 will be Doom3 with slightly faster gameplay and a better flashy engine.

lol after doom 3 which i thought was a total disaster!

this i smy reaction " OH NO NOT AGAIN! "

iD SOFTWARE SHOULD STOP  making a game and then call it doom just to try to justify it as a sequel.

Id software recently however has impressed me with the new wolfenstein game!
STILL i really like them to bring back hte "HEAD CAM" where you can see your characters behavour and they could have putt in all new emotions he might have on his face! that would be SO GREAT!

I am happy id software made this wolfenstein game sso much softer and fluid and really convinced me they still might be the greater game company. Talking about engines unreal engine has also impressed me alot and it is not hard to see that it must be a good engine for most games today to have chosen for use. Will id software manage to convince the public that it still holds the cards on engines?  will valve make a comeback to beat everyone out of hte game yet again?
To me these things have not been answered nevertheless there is alot of good looking and funn gaming ahead and the future this time looks really positive!  Enjoy! i hope.

I don't think too many people still have faith in ID software's ability to deliver.  I certainly wonder why I do.  I have quite a few friends that were into wolfenstein, doom, and quake but now play only console games.  Not to mention all the people that Valve converted.  Sadly, they seem to have lost their "vision".  Maybe its time to leave the classics alone instead of tarnishing their good names.  Maybe if they did something new and creative, they would win back their fans and customers.  Surely they are not beyond salvation, but they need to realize that in all walks of life, not just video games, the people at the top aren't the ones doing the same old thing.  The people at the top are bringing in fresh new ideas.  Twenty years from now, are we all going to be giddy with anticipation for the upcoming release of "Doom 27" or "Quake 319"?  Probably not.  Everyone knows that after you get to a certain number of sequels you have to start using clever letter combinations.  Preferably seldom used letters that occur at the end of the alphabet.

I thnk consoll gaming is great !! i like shooters with the controllers actually and you know how much fram rate you can expect.

I would usually 100% agree with you but now agree with you 90% regarding ID SOFTWARE s ability to deliver because atleast the few hours i played the new wolfenstein i was really satisfied!
the new wolfenstein really seem to concentrate on the gaming feel and enjoyment but STRANGELY enough also has the best graphics i have seen on todays games ( one of the best atleast) If they keep this up they might really et up in the top for me again.
