From Gamespy:

Random House Publishing announced that it will release David Kushner's Masters of DOOM: How Two Guys Created an Empire and Transformed Pop Culture on May 13th. The book offers an unprecedented look behind-the-scenes look at the making of the world's most popular first-person shooters (DOOM and Quake) with a specific focus on John Carmack and John Romero. The book will retail for $24.95.

After reading the  excerpt, it looks like cheesily tat to me. I think it was mainly written from a few interviews done at ID Software, but I'm not totally sure.

Personally I don't want to know anything about Carmack or Romero's private life, but that's just me.

The other guys life?

You mean John Carmack??? I think he deserves a little more than "the other guy"

Seeing as John Romero's post on this was referring to conversations that he'd had I think it's probably a little more involved that some fluffy book that's a regurgatation of stuff we've all previously read... and if not then it's off to the second hand market with it... but still... Please don't refer to Carmack as "the other guy". He's pretty damn talented and should probably get a little more respect than being referred to as the other guy... having said that from what I've read he probably wouldn't give a crap. Still...

Just read the excerpt, okey-dokey, might be good for a casual read.

Anyways, guys check out this interview with ex-iddites (including Messrs. Romero and Hall) in connection with the release of the book:
